"Someone Was About To Steal Her Dog. Is Training The Answer?"(taken from the DogProblems.com newletter)

Rita Asks:
Hi Adam! I was wondering if I could pick your brain about dog theft. Today I tied up Bodie for the very first time in front of Joe's Coffee in my neighborhood and I am 99% sure that someone was about to steal him. (I was watching Bodie from inside while I waited to order). Is there anything I can teach Bodie or put him in/tie him up to, that will deter theft? I'm planning on getting him micro-chipped when he goes in, to get fixed. But is there something more? For now (and maybe forever) I'm going to avoid leaving him outside a shop. I'm feeling totally freaked out. And another motorist pulled over and got out of her car to ask me what he was. It's just so freaky. It's my first dog and I had no idea people were this dog-crazy here.
